mmmmm...viscoelastic

Ok, sorry about that post yesterday. Guess I was in a foul mood. Today is looking slightly better, anyway.

And now, I need some input! Even if you've never commented before, please oh please if you have any insight into what I am about to say, do leave me some words of wisdom.

Hubs and I are about to buy a new bed. It has taken me 5 loooooooooong years to finally convince my husband to do so, and we want to choose wisely. Our old mattress and box spring is absolutely trashed and desperately needs to go, and in its place we are considering one of those newfangled memory foam mattresses, with "viscoelastic memory foam." That's the one where you see the girl on the commercial jumping around in her nightie while a glass of wine sits undisturbed on the other side of the bed. People, I am that glass of wine, and my husband (who is almost twice my weight) rolls around all night. I bounce around like a freaking pinball when he tosses and turns and it is seriously impacting my sleep.

So we're looking at a queen size, 10" foam mattress and a platform bed. What I'd like to know is, do you have this kind of bed? Do you love it? Do you rue the day you bought the horrible thing? If you know anything about these beds, please share!

These mattresses retain heat. Great for winter, horrible for summer.

Hmmm, I'm picturing your husband in a little nightie jumping on the bed. It's not pretty.

No experience with the memory foam bed. I did have a pillow once and it was great for awhile and then it got kind of flat in the neck area where it was supposed to support.

We've had a Spring Air for 4 years and loooove it.

We have a pillowtop mattress. The mattress is 16" thick with 5" of pillow top. It is like sleeping on a cloud.

My husband tosses and turns all night, up several times to the washroom. Before the new mattress I used to feel like sleeping with him was worse than a newborn, I got zero sleep. I don't roll into him anymore and I don't get bounced around when he gets in and out of bed. Finding a good mattress will be one of the best things you can spend money on. I don't regret a single penny spent on it.

Good luck!

Hi Kate-I have one of those memory foam mattresses-we've had it for about a year. I love it. I have never slept so good. I would feel hubby toss and turn and I would wake him up when I get up in the middle of the night. Now, if I can only find a great pillow....

I really like your blog.

As for matresses, I can't recommend the memory foam enough. Sleep has never been better. We've had ours for three years. Where we used to toss and turn and remember waking up in the middle of the night, now we joke that we go to bed and 'lose' the whole night to sleep.

I'd heard the whole heat retention thing, but we sprung for the name-brand (how often do you buy a mattress, right?), and haven't had a problem.

Also, I love the corduroy jumpers that you made for your shop. They remind me of a pattern that my mom used to make for me when I was a kid. I must've had ten of those jumpers over the years.
